Yan's Hatched DayAn overdue post.
Without telling her the location..
We gave her a lil anticipation ;p

We finally hatched the plan with everyone's presence :)
(The word "hatched" is really appropriate for many things hurhur)

It was a quaint little place with much nature surrounding the building..
Benches are made of woody stuff, the ceiling was old school.
Every decoration is simple but definitely appropriate and well thought of.

Food was alright, though the sauce on the Eggs Florentine was too thick for my liking.

Love the color combination of this picture..

Birthday 2010Gave him a morning sms to check out the area where he kept Xbox..
Planted something there few days back for him.
Just a small one =)

After the much hype about us taking leave..
He took the whole day off while I took half the day.
*****
It was a week day and beyond lunch hours..
We thought we could give Wild Honey a try..
The lady said we were second in list..
I told her I did not want the counter seats.
But after forty minutes
We saw three empty tables and more than 5 groups of guests entered the eating area..
We began to feel the frustrations..
The lady asked if we wanted the counter seats and she would change for us if there are seats..
Big sighz..
We decided to pop over Ngee Ann City for Coffee Club..
As we were about to enter Coffee Club without a queue even though the cafe was packed,
The lady finally called me.
Forget it.
Wild Honey spoilt it for me the second time.
Funny how we were just talking about restaurants losing their business due to long queues..
How much more business they could have made if they solve the space constraint.
And honestly speaking,
The queue there wasnt even that long.
*****
Coffee Club @ Ngee Ann CityOne of our frequent hang outs
Never fail to impress never let us down.
They consistently improve on their menu..

Two mains two desserts and a cup of banana butterscotch latte..
Total bill came up to $50 plus..
(Definitely a better deal to Wild Honey)
The thing about celebrating dear's birthday..
There is always this light hearted mood cos Xmas is approaching..
Feels good =)

Sunday, November 14
Looooong overdue post.
Spruce squared with the gang.
Food was..
Okie.
Perhaps I could not really get used to the heaviness of Italian cuisine..
With fried carbs, starch, cheese, thick sauces, meat and more meat..
Yummy on the first few mouthfuls, then gradually got sick of them.
Not a matter of poor culinary skills..
It's just preferences.
I loved the desserts though..
No matter how stuffed I felt, there is always room for desserts.
And these were good enough to wash the meaty taste away..
Putting the meal aside..
What are we to do without the fun of these people?
It was Pail's birthday..
And Yan and Odin got something for both Suki and Pail that got us curling in stitches.
What "appropriate" gifts!
*****
Three weeks later..
We went back to Spruce to try its brunch.
This time round, it was Suki's birthday..
While waiting for the food..
I phones still never fail to amaze us..
Brunch was only slightly better than dinner.
All's well till I forgot there was goat cheese in the dish I ordered.
It had that pungent smell and taste that totally sucked in the oesophagus in a nauseating manner and revoked my entire appetite =(
Maybe because of the wide spread of brunch menus springing up all over the place..
We got really spoilt.
With choices come critical and fussy ratings..
Nothing can beat the poached eggs from Prive and Wild Honey =p
On a side note,
I was terribly disappointed with Spruce service.
Both Suki and I called to make reservations on separate occasions.
And both of us were told that they have this complimentary brownie for birthday occasions.
For the first occasion, that did not materialize for Pail.
For the second occasion, Suki was sitting right beside me.
So I had a little difficulty to ask the service staff for the brownie.
But when I finally did manage to speak to one,
She actually told me that she was not aware of this and had to ask her colleague for help.
And we waited.
The same service staff walked past our table many times.
I tried to get her attention again but she ignored us.
So help never came.
They should never have told us there is a complimentary brownie for birthday occasions during reservations if they cannot remember and deliver.
Heck those brownies..
We were really excited to present Suki with her present.
Took quite a number of phone calls and a few shops to finally found it for her.
The pure white was either OOS, or the last piece snapped up..
Getting exactly what she loves and wants without her jolting down a wish list definitely feels better than hitting the jackpot..
Hurhurhur..
Shalt end the post with a group photo =)

Cuzzie's 21st
Had a lil gathering with the kids..
All of them were already halfway through their drinking stint when I arrived.
Sort of a shocking awareness even for a 28 year old..
They actually find it fun to torture their livers like that =x
Played some games..
Caught up with my cousin and her kids..
Another 4 months pregnant..
One started school at Chemical Engineering at NUS..
Spotted his potential partner throwing glances at each other..
Kids kids kids..
Youth is really everything..
Ignatius the birthday boy..
Mommy once babysit him for a period of time when he was still a toddler..
Being the only child back then..
He was pretty spoilt.
Used to be at loggerheads with my youngest brother..
Throwing toys at each other, fighting over Nintendo controllers..
And now they are the best of pals (like gay partners lol)
Except for the hilarious fact that he went to rebond and burn his self-detestable curly hair before army,
He grew up really fine and sensible..
21 years old now..
Just got into NUS Chemical Engineering
And now it's time for him to get lovey dovey hurhur..
So that's how the story goes..
We took turns around the table to wish the birthday boy something..
Some wished his dad would buy him a house, a car..
Some wished him to excel in his soon to be new found love..
Some wished that he will get first class honours..
But when it came to the boss of the cafe..
Things did not become that simple anymore lol.
Ending the night with more peeks..

A post birthday celebration
Suki made the arrangements at Oriole Cafe..
At first I thought there was only the 2 of us..
But it was a pleasant surprise when she told me that very day Yan, Odin and Pail were joining us =)
So in the end she had to let it out to me before we meet..
Hurhurhur..
Food was average..
A lil overrated in fact..
And because the lighting is really warm and cosy,
There was no way my camera could produce decent food pictures.
After the meal
We popped over to Youth Park behind Cineleisure for some mix and match ice cream..
And
My customised goodies =D

Under pressure from "someone"
I took the day off -.-
He said one should not work on his or her birthday..
So I thought I would wake up early to go for a morning run.
The thing is,
I should have known that I would not be able to make it.
Naught a morning jogger at all.
Couldnt even drag myself out of bed..
Daddy suggested we asked grandma out..
We would meet her to have vegan dim sum at Bugis.
Grandma has been extremely independent even though she's wheel chair bounded.
Kudos to her maid,
I now know how to push the wheel chair to exit the underground MRT,
How to plan ahead and cross the right curb-less traffic junction,
How to down a curb..
So we pushed her all the way to Si Ma Lu..
And then watched her do grocery shopping =)
After the meal,
She actually told us to go shopping ourselves and no need to keep having to lookout for her.
She loves loves shopping on her own.
Daddy went off on his own too.
*****
Mommy and I walked around..
Knowing that she is a coffee lover, I brought her to Starbucks.
Almost rolled on the floor laughing when she told me how she and a friend once went to Starbucks and ordered kopi-si =D
She loves the Mocha wor..
Chatted for a while..
Based on the coffee shop versions that they always ordered,
I wrote down the types of Starbucks coffee she and her friend would probably like so that they can order themselves the next time =p
*****
Popped over to Vivocity to meet dear..
He had his back to me as I approached the in-the-midst-of-Iphone him..
Caught a glimpse of this..
Passerbys were staring at him lol..
A simple day
We caught The Karate Kid and dinner aftermath at this shop that was so enigmatically hidden near Sushi Tei.
The dining area was black.
The pillars were black
The seats were black.
The lanterns were black.
Chopsticks were black.
Wet wipes were packaged in black.
After the first picture of the appetizer,
We were told pictures were allowed on humans but not food o.0?
So we POSED with the food.
The camera was supposedly shooting dear but "accidentally" pressed the zoooom button, so I "accidentally" got a picture of the xiao long bao hurhurhur..
Perhaps Bosses does not want competitors to grasp their food ideas..
Honestly speaking,
The Cantonese cuisine was really good.
And not forgetting the nice walk along the bay after dinner..
Water always has this soothing effect that never fails to calm me =)

Birthdays
I've stopped celebrating them, deep down.
Funny how the birthday person always feels nonchalant about the day,
But he or she would actually brace the fire to make the day a memorable one when it comes to their friends..
*Vegan cake, with courtesy from mommy's friend*
It was a day of quiet reflections for me.
I thought the day should be dedicated to Mommy.
Cos she risked her life for me 28 years ago.
This year
I received loads of sms-es, flowers and jewellery.
It really warmed me..
One of them was the Swarovski..
Personally passed to me by Don's friend Cherie who had a flight to BJ..
Damn sweet of her lo..
Just the other night,
Another of his friend came up to our place to help Don collect his student pass.
He was also going to China to meet Don.
What did Don do to deserve such good friends..
Daddy asked Ming to call Don in BJ and they all sang me a birthday song =)
*Taken by dear*
一天也就这样过去了。。

The 51st week of 2009
Monday
Dear’s Birthday =)
Made a reservation with L’espresso at Goodwood Park Hotel for some English hi tea.
During our last Royal Copenhagen hi tea session, we were in fact choosing between Royal Copenhagen and L’esresso.
So here we were.
What can I say about hotel services except pure professionalism?
When I called to make the reservation, they actually informed me the cost per pax even before I confirmed my reservation.
And then they called me the day before to confirm my reservation again.
The minute we sat down, the staff came to us and passed us the menu to choose from a selection of teas.
And they did refills quite frequently.
But no matter how many times they refilled our pot of tea, the tea still remained concentrated =)
The food and pastries and desserts..
The burst of flavours, the colors, the presentation and the sizes in miniature..
How we wished we got a dozen of stomachs to savour them.
We are such let downs where buffets are concerned.
L'espresso seems to get almost 100% positive reviews on hungrygowhere.com.
The food is really good.
Looking back on the pictures really did make me drool all over once again.
These were what I managed to capture from our barely-make-it 5 plates serving.
Loved the mango prawn croissant..
Not forgetting the burst of flavours and textures as I placed the small little crispy cup basket into my mouth.
The turkey ham slices were very well seasoned and the mildly spicy crab meat sandwich was really tingling the taste buds.
And of course the tortilla wrap with pepper chicken was dangerously tempting me to have a second and third one..
There is this salmon mille feuille with caviar that actually tasted quite good.
And there were the all time favourite fried potato and tempura.
The bread and butter pudding was very light, nothing too heavy.
The creme brulee was haven..!!
I took one at first and dear took two mouthfuls.
Then off he went to get one for himself.
Hurhur..
The nutty pie, the walnut raisins cake definitely had a generous portion of macadamia nuts, almonds, walnuts and raisins.
Absolutely no trace of scrimping on ingredients.
The scone was the other pastry bursting with raisins.
Our stomachs were soooo on the verge of exploding that we missed the chocolate fondue as well as the other displays of mini cakes to our left, hidden by a pillar =(
This one meal was enough to last us through the whole day.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner =x
The session was not cheap.
But
It was once in a blue moon..
How often can we have such a unanimous indulgence..
High tea on a fine working afternoon =p
So high on sugar, high on decadence.
Hope thee enjoyed thyself =)

Saturday, June 27
Met up with my two other partners in crime =p
*Warning: Camera whores ahead*
Sort of weird that Suki suggested the place,
I coordinated the meetup
We linked JS the full address to the decided point..
And JS should have problems finding the place right?
Instead Suki and I ended up very lost..
So JS was the first to arrive.
It did not help at all when we hailed a cab which did not even know which turn to make to Bishan Park.
Finally we learnt that there were Park I and Park II.
We two gun-dus lol..
The cab driver dropped us off more than 1300 meters away from our destination.
Plus we had to take pictures of this little cute squirrel munching on its nut..
And the lush greenery was a huge temptation to the one with the Nikon DSLR keke..

Hence this was how a worried hungry man looked like..
Soooo sorry..

We settled for The Canopy.
Which was managed by the same group as The Green Room Café.
The latter had an event going on.
The hungry us wasted no time with our orders.
And it helped a lot for decisions especially when the menu list wasn’t that long.
Then the both of us presented JS with his Bday loot.
Hehe..
An atomic bomb tee designed by Suki’s all time favorite celeb.

Then our food came..
Vegetarian baked brown rice for Suki
Vegetarian pasta for me
And a father day set meal for JS.. LOL

The above photo shots led to an even angrier man..=p
Because we could not stop snapping..
Okie it was me in fact.

We kept whipping out our cameras.. And out came our caps our nerdy glasses as well..
Viola!

Some silly moments..

The trio
20 years and counting =)

After the meal
We checked out the outdoor dining area.
It was a sweet ideal nature-loving place for small scale events. Who can resist nature?
Felt like some resorts by the beach.

Pretty pretty..

This is the fun of having a Nikon DSLR Photographers in action..=D

JS place thereafter..
And we bought Hagen Daz to his place..

Anyone needs a male model? =D
